Share Your Life Story With Tokoni

Tokoni may look and feel like a run-of-the-mill social network at first glance, but as you dig deeper it becomes clear that there’s something different here. It’s difficult to explain exactly why it’s different than a typical blog or social network because the heart of their service relies on users posting and commenting, which are the same ingredients they all share in common. However, Tokoni has managed to wrapped several new concepts around this common theme.

For example, here’s something they call the bubble browser that displays members and how they all connect to one another as well as to all of the categories that they’ve written stories about. It’s a visual map of users and all of the things that they consider important:

You can discover new stories and friends by using the Explore the World feature, which is another visual map, but instead of being centered around the storyteller (member) it covers the stories and the region of the globe it came from. It’s a great way to find local stories too.

Members can also start Hubs, which are collaborative collections of stories connected by a central theme or subject. Each member contributes their own story to add to the Hub and comments on those already submitted.

Yet another interesting feature found on the site is called Collections, which are like playlists created by members centered around a particular subject, much like the Hubs feature. The difference being the fact that only the creator of the collection can add or remove stories unlike the Hub, which any member can contribute to on their own.

Members can earn tokens whenever other members like one of their stories. They range from simple “thanks for sharing” all the way to “that’s amazing!” Stories can also be marked as favorites and added to collections so there are many ways to express how you feel about the stories you read on the site.

Tokoni has taken a standard services like blogging, microblogging and social networking and mixed them all together to create a new kind of social media soup. Through the aid of features such as hubs, collections and the bubble browser, Tokoni members can create new connections with friends all over the world linked by common experiences they’ve shared on the site. The question will ultimately come down to whether or not people are willing to give up the traditional method of blogging to share their life stories for this unique type of life story social network. As is the case with all other original services, only time will tell.
