Since debuting in 1997 with her hit single "On & On", Erykah Badu has toured relentlessly, acted, and released several more Platinum records. Badu released her debut album, Baduzim, in 1997 and scored several R&B hits including "On & On", which won a Grammy in 1998. Badu won another Grammy in 1999 for her collaboration with The Roots on the hauntingly beautiful track "You Got Me". Badu returned in 2000 with Mama's Gun and hit road on the Frustrated Artist Tour, an allusion to the fact that she was suffering from a bout of writer's block. The lack of creativity was short-lived, however, and Badu returned in 2003 with the upbeat Worldwide Underground album which reached #3 on the Billboard 200. Badu embarked on the Worldwide Underground Tour which culminated in an era of productivity for Badu.

In 2007, Badu released New Amerykah Part One (4th World War) and in 2010 she released New Amerykah part Two (Return of the Ankh). In addition to her musical output, Badu is an activist who started the charity, Beautiful Love Incorporated No Profit Development (B.L.I.N.D.), which offers art and culture services to inner-city youth.
